Client-Centered, Family-Focused Therapy

Private, fee-for-service Occupational Therapy (OT) for children ages 3 to 10 years is provided in the comfort of your own home or relevant community-based settings (store, playground, library, etc.). Services will focus on goals that you feel are important for your child or that your child would like to improve. The therapist will discuss challenging routines and help you prioritize goals for intervention. During sessions, we will observe and practice those routines together and collaboratively identify helpful suggestions and strategies for carryover to improve your child’s engagement and participation in family routines and daily life.

Services are scheduled at a mutually agreed upon time that coordinates with both the family and therapist’s schedule. Service frequency can vary from weekly, biweekly, or monthly sessions.

Fill in the Gap Between Home & School-Based Therapy

If your child is receiving therapy at school but still struggles with daily routines at home, we can help fill that gap! OT may target dressing, feeding, bathroom routines, self-care, play, participating in family routines, and engaging in community-based activities. We can help to build your child’s fine/gross motor skills, attention and regulation, sensory processing, social interaction, executive function skills, and more through a variety of personalized, therapeutic strategies.

Parent-Therapist Collaboration

At Urban Pediatric OT Services, we believe parents and caregivers play a crucial role in fostering children’s development. Our goal is to help you better understand your child’s unique and individual needs, and equip and empower you to become the best parent/caregiver you can be! Through therapist/ parent collaboration, our services are focused on the parent, just as much as the child. Parents, caregivers, and family members are encouraged to actively participate in sessions and try out strategies that we discuss during and in between sessions, with professional feedback, guidance, and encouragement along the way.

Consultation services are also available and may include parent/therapist brainstorming and problem-solving, parent education, consulting with preschool or educational staff/team members, and more. Consultations may also be conducted virtually if needed, with greater flexibility in scheduling (including weekend or evening hours) for working parents.

Dr. Cristina Urban, OTD, OTR/L, ASDCS is a registered and licensed occupational therapist in Pennsylvania. She earned an associate’s degree in OT in 2000 from Delaware Tech and a bachelor’s and master’s degree in OT from Towson University in 2007. Cristina is also a 2024 alumnus of Chatham University, where she completed a post-professional clinical doctorate in OT. In addition, she holds specialty certifications in both ADHD and Autism. Cristina has worked as an OT practitioner for over 24 years. Her previous experience includes school-based practice, preschool services, pediatric outpatient services, private practice, and hospital-based. Cristina has spent the last 14 years working in early intervention, where she continues to provide OT services for infants/toddlers in Berks County. She has experience working with children with Autism, ADHD, sensory processing differences, Down Syndrome, genetic disorders, Cerebral Palsy, Pediatric Stroke/hemiplegia, medical needs, specific learning disabilities, and cognitive delays/intellectual disabilities. Cristina also serves as an adjunct instructor in the Occupational Therapy department at a local university. She is a member of the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA) and the Pennsylvania Occupational Therapy Association (POTA).

Cristina resides in southeast Berks County, is married, and has two wonderful boys, aged 10 and 15 years. As a family, they enjoy hiking, biking, camping, traveling, and trips to the beach. Cristina is also the parent of two children who are neurodivergent (ADHD, autism, dyslexia, etc.), and she understands both the joys and challenges that come with raising children who learn differently. Through her personal and professional experiences, Cristina has developed a deep level of empathy, compassion, and care for parents raising children with developmental differences.

Cristina is a big believer in strengths-based, neuro-affirming care, which is a philosophy that approaches children with neurodevelopmental differences (such as autism and ADHD) as NOT broken, just different. She respects and honors all forms of communication and interaction and recognizes that all children learn, play, and grow differently. In this light, the purpose of therapy is NOT to try to force children to “fit into a mold” or “appear neurotypical” but rather to allow children to be their true, authentic selves while problem-solving challenges and maximizing potential! Let’s partner together to watch your child blossom and grow into who they were meant to be!
